Random bond Ising chain in a transverse magnetic field: A finite-size scaling analysis

چکیده
We investigate the zero-temperature quantum phase transition of the random bond Ising chain in a transverse magnetic field. Its critical properties are identical to those of the McCoy-Wu model, which is a classical Ising model in two dimensions with layered disorder. The latter is studied via Monte Carlo simulations and transfer matrix calculations and the critical exponents are determined with a finite-size scaling analysis. The magnetization and susceptibility obey conventional rather than activated scaling. We observe that the order parameter– and correlation function–probability distribution show a nontrivial scaling near the critical point which implies a hierarchy of critical exponents associated with the critical behavior of the generalized correlation lengths. 75.10Hk,,75.50Lk Typeset using REVTEX

Magnetic Properties in a Spin-1 Random Transverse Ising Model on Square Lattice
In this paper we investigate the effect of a random transverse field, distributed according to a trimodal distribution, on the phase diagram and magnetic properties of a two-dimensional lattice (square with z=4), ferromagnetic Ising system consisting of magnetic atoms with spin-1. This study is done using the effectivefield theory (EFT) with correlations method. The equations are derived using...
متن کاملMagnetic Properties and Phase Transitions in a Spin-1 Random Transverse Ising Model on Simple Cubic Lattice
Within the effective-field theory with correlations (EFT), a transverse random field spin-1 Ising model on the simple cubic (z=6) lattice is studied. The phase diagrams, the behavior of critical points, transverse magnetization, internal energy, magnetic specific heat are obtained numerically and discussed for different values of p the concentration of the random transverse field.
متن کاملFinite-size scaling of the entanglement entropy of the quantum Ising chain with homogeneous, periodically modulated and random couplings
Using free-fermionic techniques we study the entanglement entropy of a block of contiguous spins in a large finite quantum Ising chain in a transverse field, with couplings of different types: homogeneous, periodically modulated and random. We carry out a systematic study of finite-size effects at the quantum critical point, and evaluate subleading corrections both for open and for periodic bou...
متن کاملHigher Dimensional Realizations of Activated Dynamic Scaling at Random Quantum Transitions.
There is considerable current interest in the properties of phase transitions in random quantum systems. Experimentally accessible quantum transitions such as the transition from an insulator to a metal [1] or a superconductor [2], and various magnetic-nonmagnetic transitions in heavy fermion compounds [3], high-Tc cuprates [4], or insulating dipolar Ising magnets [5], often occur in situations...
متن کاملFinite-size scaling of pseudocritical point distributions in the random transverse-field Ising chain
We study the distribution of finite-size pseudocritical points in a one-dimensional random quantum magnet with a quantum phase transition described by an infinite randomness fixed point. Pseudocritical points are defined in three different ways: the position of the maximum of the average entanglement entropy, the scaling behavior of the surface magnetization, and the energy of a soft mode. All ...
